Information
The regional leisure methodical center "Lumiere" (formerly "Regional cinema-fund”) has a comfortable mini-cinemahall with Dolby-sound and a two-by-four screen. The cinema was named after the pioneers of the cinematography - brothers Jean Louis and Auguste Lumiere. The cozy cinema hall has 35 seats - exactly as many visitors came to the first film showed by the Lumieres.
"Lumiere" is not just an ordinary small cinema. All social classes can afford its tickets. Here, students watch film adaptations of literary works. The cinema hall hosts charity shows for war and labor veterans, disabled people. "Lumiere" is the only cinema hall of the region, which shows the masterpieces of the world cinematography of the past years. Every Thursday they hold sessions of "intellectual cinema" for the art-house fans, where one can watch the movies by the outstanding filmmakers: Tarkovsky, Fellini, Pudovkin, Eisenstein, etc.
In the summer months "Lumiere" annually opens "Summer Cinema" in the city center. In Friday and Saturday everyone can watch best Russian movies for free. Up to 50 people come to the benches in front of the improvised screen every evening.

On request, the cinema "Lumiere" can arrange special events or show any movie from the regional collection of movies for a large group of spectators.
Here they will also help you to burn audio-visual products or carry out an examination of audio-visual products.
Besides, the specialists of the center are obliged to supply sound equipment, spare parts for the equipment of cultural organizations, repairs, maintain and install equipment of cultural organizations and theatrical entertainment events    .
Regular guests of the cinema, the club of veterans “Commonwealth” and the club of anime-fans “Kirin”, hold the thematic meetings in "Lumiere" in order to watch and discuss their favorite movies in warm and friendly atmosphere.

 Cinema collections
The regional cinema collection includes more than 7 thousand movies on different types of media. Among them there are masterpieces of the world cinematography, including foreign-language movies, fairy-tale movies and cartoons. Very popular are the screen adaptations of literary works and films about their authors.
Video films are becoming increasingly popular in educational work with children concerning such matters as prevention of drug addiction, alcoholism, smoking, AIDS, environmental protection, fire safety, road safety, civil defense and emergency situations. Educational movies are shown on PE classes as well.
Such movies help to encourage military and patriotic spirit in young people.
The "Lumiere" cinema collection includes unique movies about Lenin.
“Cinema chronicles of the Ulyanovsk Oblast (province of Simbirsk)”, as well as films in the languages of the Ulyanovsk region peoples help to learn more about the history of the native land, its traditions and culture.

Festivals and Contests
One of the main tasks of "Lumiere" is to arrange and conduct festivals and competitions aimed at promoting cinema in the Ulyanovsk oblast.
"With all my heart” – a festival of all-family movies and TV shows devoted to Leontieva V.
The annual open festival of all-family movies and TV shows devoted to Leontieva V. - "With all my heart" – implies show of competitive and non-competitive films in the cinema halls of Ulyanovsk and motion-picture installations of the region; meetings and workshops with cinema and theater actors, directors, composers and producers; gala concerts and other cultural events.
Festivals of Tales and TV shows devoted to Valentina Leontieva: "Visit to a fairy tale" and "Good night, kids"
"Lumiere" stores an invaluable collection of 55 Russian fairy tale movies and TV shows for children, where Valentina Leontieva was a show presenter. There are annual film screenings for pupils of all regional districts held monthly during the school year.

“ Best Rural cinema hall” contest.
Every year from January to August, cultural institutions of the region take part in the regional contest "Best Rural cinema hall". The contest aims at developing of Russian films distribution and exhibition, improving the cinema service, introducing the new cinema technologies in the village. The grand prize of the contest is a set of modern video projection devices for cinema. The equipment allows you to play DVD-films on the big screen.

Competition " Amateur filmmaker"
The competition gives the young authors of Ulyanovsk a chance to show their skills as a director, scriptwriter, actor, cameraman and video editor, as well as to submit their works to approval of the professional jury and get them to a new festival level. Everyone is allowed to take part in the contest.
Topics of the contest are different: "Ulyanovsk in the Great Patriotic War", "Portrait", "Family", "Health of the Nation", "Sports", "Tourism", "Nature, Ecology", "Non-format" (films made with the use of unconventional technologies).
